The history of Palazzo Mocenigo

The palace, with its square base and central courtyard, has undergone expansions and renovations over the centuries that have made it the majestic building we can admire today. The external facades, characterized by large “serlianas,” reflect the Venetian architectural style of the 17th and 18th centuries. Inside, rococo and neoclassical frescoes and furnishings tell the story of the Mocenigo family and their sumptuous homes.

Museum tour

The tour, completely renovated in 2013, winds through twenty rooms on the first main floor, offering a comprehensive overview of the life and activities of the Venetian patricians. Thanks to the arrangement curated by Pier Luigi Pizzi, the furnishings and paintings of the palace integrate with works from the Civic Museums of Venice, creating a suggestive environment rich in detail. Mannequins dressed in antique clothes transport us to the fashion of the time, while a section dedicated to perfume reveals the city’s fundamental role in aesthetic and cosmetic tradition.

Exploring venetian perfume

On the main floor, six rooms are entirely dedicated to perfume, offering a unique sensory and informative journey. Multimedia tools and sensory experiences guide us through a little-known but fundamental tradition in the history of Venetian fashion. On the ground floor, a Multimedia Room, a Perfume Workshop, and a White Room complete the experience, offering spaces for events and interactive activities.

The Museum of Palazzo Mocenigo is a hidden treasure that deserves to be discovered and appreciated. Thanks to its rich collection and innovative approach, it will take you on an unforgettable journey into the heart of historic Venice.
